Located in a cute neighborhood in Southeast, Little Beast boasts an even cuter venue. I’ll be the first to admit, I am a sucker for bars and restaurants in old houses - catch me at Rambler on Mississippi Street way too often. I love the homey feel of Little Beast, and with cozy seating in nooks of big windows and plenty of outdoor patio space, it’s a great addition to the Portland beer scene.
Less than a year ago, they took over the location of what used to be Hedge House, an extension of Lompoc Brewing. With a veteran cast of brewers and well-branded marketing, they have quickly become a Portland staple.
Their beer list is just the right size, and they specialize in farmhouse ales, so I had to try at least one, after first being drawn to their brand new Czech Pilsner. Both beers were refreshing and agreeable, despite neither type being my typical preference.
The server was very knowledgable, and her immediate suggestion of beers indicated she was passionate about what she was selling, which I always love in a beer-tender. A great location, great beers, and great atmosphere all make me strongly believe Little Beast is here to stay, and I can’t wait to see what year two has in store for them.
Take-Away Word: Neighborly
Beer: 4/5 I’m interested in seeing how they expand in the future.
